D&W donates wheelchairs to CHC
The D&W Group of Companies donated five new adult wheelchairs to the Commonwealth Health Center Wednesday morning.
The new wheelchairs, each costing about $600, were accepted by Department of Public Health Secretary Dr. James U. Hofschneider and other DPH staff.
G&W executive administrator Enoch Sungsoo Lim said the donation of the wheelchairs serves as a way for D&W to give back to the community.
“We get business because of the community, and we’re giving back and sharing what we can,” he said. “We donated just five wheelchairs because we’re on a tight budget, but hopefully we can give more next year.”
Lim said he read a month back that the hospital, especially the hemodialysis section, was in need of wheelchairs, giving them the idea of donating some.
“We’re living in a small community, so we all have to share,” he said. “The community helps us, so we help the community in whatever way we can.”
D&W human resources manager John DL. Guerrero said the donation was an “early Christmas present” for hospital and community members.
“It’s a good present for the hospital and everyone coming to the hospital,” he said. “It’s needed right now.”
Lim, also general manager for sister company Wushin Corp., also disclosed that a $1,000 donation was contributed to the man’amko earlier that morning.
Wushin Corp. operates as a liquid petroleum gas distributor, while D&W operates Shell gas stations including establishments in Puerto Rico, Dandan, Koblerville and the Highway Express and Tires and Lubes in Gualo Rai.
