‘Complete road projects ASAP’
Rep. Jesus T. Attao is urging Gov. Juan N. Babauta to declare a state of emergency for the immediate completion of the Sadog Tasi, China Town and Chalan Kiya road projects.
In a resolution Attao pre-filed on Dec. 9, 2004, he said these road projects need to be completed at once “to protect the people and the environment.”
The resolution further asks Department of Public Works Secretary John S. Reyes to clear the appropriations for these projects.
“People have suffered mental and physical exhaustion tolerating floods in their homes due to overflowing drainage and septic tanks, not to mention the financial responsibilities [of] repairing such damages,” reads part of Attao’s resolution.
He pointed out that funding for these projects have already been identified and appropriated almost six years ago and additional delays in the completion of the projects will cause the government to incur additional costs.
He said the declaration of the state of emergency is necessary so that the government can sole-source the project.
Recent typhoons Tingting and Chaba have hampered the completion of the projects and have contributed to the further deterioration of the roads.
The DPW had awarded these road paving and drainage project to Maeda Corp.
The Sadog Tasi road paving and drainage project was initially allotted funding from the available $540,000. An additional $195,521 was given in February this year upon receiving right-of-way rights for the project.
The Falipe and Chalan Kiya road and drainage project was allocated an emergency funding of $1 million, followed by CIP funds amounting to $742,211. Extra funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency were also allocated for the project as part of disaster relief. (Joseph Marconi Calindas)
