Matsumoto wins SGA December Ace
The Saipan Golf Association held their December Ace last Nov. 21 at the always challenging Kingfisher Golf Links.
Participation of members was exceptional, especially, to the Ave “Wannabe’s” who came to the game with high hopes of capturing the last SGA Ace of the Month title and a place in the club’s yearend tournament.
It was indeed a battle from start to finish, but when the dust settled, Joe Sablan edged John Matshmoto by a stroke.
Sablan shot a gross score of 90, but minus his 22-handicap, he wound up with a superb score of four-under par 68. Matsumoto, for his part, finished with a gross score of 89, minus his 20-handicap, gave him a respectable net score of 69.
In the end, Matsumoto took home the monthly title since Sablan already won this year.
John Guerrero performed flawlessly with his consistent driving, precision iron shots and timely putting. He came in with a brilliant gross score of 77. But with his 7-handicap had to settle for a net score of 70, good enough for third best of the day.
The longest drive competition was won by former Superior Court presiding judge Edward Manibusan on hole No. 2, while Rich Kautz took care of business on hole No. 7. The closest to the pin awards went to Mr. Jung on No. 6 and Ben Aldan on the hole No. 8. Ed Sablan and Jung also secured the 12th and 15th holes, respectively.
SGA is reminding all members that its Club Championship Tournament is slated for this coming Sunday, Dec. 12, at Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
