Following the success of last month’s Enticer Triathlon in Marpi, the Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation is offering a second abbreviated event aimed at getting people hooked on a healthier lifestyle provided for by the multi-sport activity.

Tomorrow, Dec. 11, the NMITF is hosting the next level in its series of races for aspiring triathletes. This event features a slightly more difficult race than the November outing, while it will still be shorter than an average triathlon.

Unlike the previous event, competitors will be able to choose between traversing the Enticer race distance of a 300-meter swim, a 9-kilometer bike, and a 2km run, and either of the two the sprint courses.

Those looking for more of a challenge may opt to enter the sprint race, with distances consisting of a 600m swim, a 15km bike, and a 4km run. The most intrepid triathletes with ambitions of representing the CNMI in the South Pacific Mini Games must answer the call of the double sprint, which is a 1,200m swim, 30km bike, and 8km run.

There is an additional option available for those favoring the run or swim portions of the course, as teams are encouraged for the longer distances.

NMITF officials have put together the beginners’ series that will prepare newcomers to tackle the Tinian Triathlon in February 2005, after which, they will award a free entry to Tagaman Triathlon in April to the most promising rookie in the series.

Registration for the Enticer Triathlon will begin at 7:30am in the Pau Pau Beach parking lot, followed by an 8am go time. The registration for the sprint courses begins at 6am, followed by a 6:30am go time.

The longer distance races should be mostly over by the start of the enticer, so participants are cautioned to watch out for racers in the entrance and transition area upon arrival in the parking lot.

It is mandatory that all riders wear protective helmets, and it is recommended that racers plan on arriving at least an half-hour prior to the start of the race in order to set up their bikes, gear, and have a small warm-up.

The cost to enter is $5 for NMITF members and $10 for non-members. The annual fee to become a member of the NMITF is $25.

Interested racers or volunteers may also pre-register by submitting their intentions to sueknecht1@yahoo.com.
