CUC pump down, rationing begins
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has imposed water rationing in the areas of Chalan Kiya and golf course beginning yesterday due to major mechanical and electrical failures at the main water pump station in the area.
Because of this unexpected situation, CUC began the water rationing and it expects to keep doing so until about Dec. 16, 2004. The temporary scheduled water hours will be from 3pm to 6am daily until the necessary repair work is complete.
The CUC’s Water Division said the mechanical and electrical failures occurred early yesterday morning, Dec. 9.
“CUC asks for your patience and understanding and regrets any inconvenience that may occur. If you have any question(s) or need further information, please call the Water Division at 235-7025, ext. 147, or the Trouble Desk at 235-0282 or 235-2282,” the division said in a statement.
Meantime, CUC said it is now accepting applications for wastewater hook-ups.
The utility agency said the wastewater hook-ups particularly apply to residents and business owners in the area from the airport’s “Welcome/Adios” sign, northward toward Tun Herman Pan Road and southward along the As Lito Road toward Koblerville.
CUC said the new wastewater line consists of five new pump stations and is equipped with standby generators. It is anticipated that many residential and commercial customers in these areas will be benefited.
“This has been a long awaited project, which was initiated and funded by the Commonwealth Ports Authority for a total package of $5.4 million. CUC now operates and maintains this wastewater system,” the utility agency said.
