Lost Boyz win third straight in IWVBL
The Lost Boyz (3-0) narrowly avoided their first entry in the loss column last Thursday when they eked out two sets against the winless Monarchs (0-3) at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, in one of the closest matches of the 2004-2005 Island Wide Volleyball League.
Since making the transition from Rocball to six-man indoor volleyball, the Lost Boyz have managed to repel all challengers, but after taking the first set of the best-of-three from the Monarchs, 25-22, they found themselves on the receiving end of royalty, 23-25.
The Boyz quickly refocused, and the squad put to rest the fears of their followers when they took the final set, 15-6.
On the south court, the She Devils (3-1) and Bootylicious (1-1) got the women’s division back in action, as the high-flying Devils came out on the winning end of a hotly contested match to earn their third victory of the young season.
Though the She Devils were able to win the match in a two-set sweep, the 26-24 and 24-26 scores were as close a victory as possible.
The second round of men’s action returned another crossover team, as Rocball runner-up Shag (2-1) dispatched the Chuukanos in three sets. As was the case for the Lost Boyz, Shag had some difficulty with their challengers, and fell in their first set 19-25.
Not easily discouraged, Shag rallied back to win the equalizer 25-23, and carried their newfound momentum into the third set, smoking the Chuukanos 15-5 in the rubber match.
In cross-court action, the Dragons (2-1) torched the Hitters (1-3) with an overpowering offense in straight sets, 25-17 and 25-8, to round out the volleyball-athon in the women’s division.
All of the action of the Island Wide Volleyball League continues tonight at the Ada Gym at 6:30pm.
