In a game laden with first place implications, the Sleezy Lambleezies moved into second place, ahead of Bend It Like Megan, on Tuesday night when they won their eighth straight contest in the continuation of the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League.

The Sleezy Lambleezies (10-1) had the chance to advance when the head-to-head match up with the then-second ranked Bend It Like Megan (9-2) arrived two nights ago, and it was easy to see why the teams were at the top of the pack when they started to get the game underway on the sand court at the Pacific Islands Club.

The Lambleezies have allowed the least amount of points against in the entire 13-team league (167), and they continued the trend by holding the Megan’s to three points in the first set, 11-3.

Bend It Like Megan didn’t get into the upper echelon by rolling over when the times were tough, and the determined squad was inspired by the crafty play of Nick Castro, as they won the second set 11-6 to tie the game.

The titans of beach ball seemed to elevate their game every time a new wave lapped up on the shore, but a few points into the third and final set, the Sleezy Lambleezies began to pull away.

Scott Eck served up ace after ace to the Megans, and before long the score was 9-2 in favor of the Lambleezies. Bend It Like Megan was finally able to force a sideout, but they were only able to manage another pair of points, and surrendered another to Gannover Rettin.

The teams traded sideouts until the Sleezy Lambleezies had completely cycled through their rotation to bring up the “Eck-ster” to finish what he had started.

“C’mon guys, one serve—let’s do this,” said Eck.

One serve was all that they needed, and one serve was all that they got, as Eck completed what he had started some 15 minutes prior to lead the Lambleezies over Bend It Like Megan by a 11-4 score, and into a position to tie the first place Flush It!.

The Sleezy Lambleezies have one game remaining against the Bill Bratzski’s (5-5) tonight at 8pm, while the Megans wrap up their season against Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You next Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6pm.

Flush It! (11-1) managed to break out the brooms against the Dragon Flares (7-4) on Tuesday, as they extinguished the fiery reptilians in straight sets, 11-2, 11-6, and 11-8.

Flush It! won their third game in a row after they stumbled against Bend It Like Megan, and finished the season by dominating their opponents by scoring 361 points and allowing 213.

The game was not as important for the Dragon Flares, as they were assured of a spot in the playoffs prior to the match, and were out of reach of the regular season title. They return to the court at 6pm tonight to take on Shoot The Winkle (4-7)—a team that can make the playoffs if they can pull off a win.

The Winkle would have been in a much better position to make the Elite Eight had they not fallen to the Clam Smackers (4-6). In doing so, they dropped their second in a row, and now find themselves fighting for a berth in the post-season.

The Clams won a hotly contested match with the Winkle, but came out on the winning end of the stick to down them 11-6, 11-8, and 11-9. The Clam Smackers are on the bubble, and can find themselves edging out the Bananas (5-7) for the final spot in the playoffs by winning out their final two games against Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You and the Bill Bratzski’s.

In one of the most meaningless games of the season, Team Papalatung (1-10) and Esemuoel (0-11) were engaged in a thriller between the two previously remaining winless wonders.

Team Papalatung was on the losing end of the first set when Esemuoel won their third set of the season 11-5. The teams picked up where they left off in the second set, and Team Papalatung evened the best-of-three set count at one apiece by eking out an 11-9 victory.

The final set between the cellar dwellers went deep into extra points, as Team Papalatung finally broke into the win column with a deciding 14-12 third set win.
