More analysis needed

Sen. Pete Reyes’ idea of having CNMI employers shoulder the cost of giving both nonresident and local employees equal medical benefits is great and I’m all for fair treatment. However, adding this financial burden on the employers is also not fair, unless nonresident and local employees contribute a certain percentage to the cost; employers will then pay the other portion for the employees to be covered by health insurance. As for exclusion services not covered by insurance, employers need to negotiate with the insurance companies.

Putting additional burden on employers is not fair and it will only create more problems. It’s enough that some CNMI employers are not fully able to meet their financial obligation with their nonresident workers because of financial hardship. Before creating a new law, I suggest that they do further analysis for the benefit of all.
