Thank you Dai-Ichi Hotel for a memorable day
I stepped into the lobby with my heart uncontrollably beating with excitement. Nov. 3, 2004 was the Youth Take Over Day. I signed up to be a Dai-Ichi Food & Beverage assistant manager. Along with my two friends, we went to the Human Resource Office and our day, perhaps the most interesting day of my life, began.
Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach is the second largest hotel in Saipan with over 400 rooms. Dai-Ichi is famous for its nightly cultural dance and delicious lobster dinner. F&B is divided into two departments: service and kitchen. They’re in charge of the Creole Restaurant, Shimbashi Restaurant, Claret, Chambré, Ocean View, Banquet, Beverage, Stewarding, and Pastry/Bakery.
My host, Mr. Thomas Welch, showed me different restaurants, kitchens, and how they work. To prepare and meet the satisfaction of guests is not an easy thing to do. F&B staff have to double check the reservation to make sure everything is correct, display the area, check with chefs for menus or additional requests, show impeccable service and even clean up. They have to make sure customers are pleased with Dai-Ichi Hotel. The most important thing I learned was that you should always have Plan B. You have to think “what if” all the time and be prepared either way.
While eating an appetizing lunch at Creole restaurant, my friends and I chatted about our one-day job. We were all excited and couldn’t wait for what we’re going to do after lunch. We all had to do the actual job and learned that the reason staff members greet with a smile is because they know they’re prepared.
Until the end of the day, human resources manager Ms. Eileen Guerrero showed hospitality and made our day more enjoyable.
I thank all the staff/employees at Dai-Ichi for a wonderful day and unforgettable memory. Especially, I want to thank Mr. Thomas Welch, Ms. Eileen Guerrero, general manager Mr. Mark Swinton, and of course our Youth Affairs Office for making all things possible. Even with busy schedules, Dai-Ichi Hotel gave us the experience of a lifetime and taught us so many things. I hope next year, more people would participate and make it a memorable day.
