Govt basketball league a go
The 2004 Inter-Government Men’s Basketball League will unfurl starting tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The first match will pit Department of Community and Cultural Affairs against Commonwealth Ports Authority beginning at 6pm. The second game, scheduled at 7:30pm, then features Department of Public Safety I against Public School System.
The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Island confirmed yesterday that 12 teams have signed up for the competition.
BANMI also said that beginning this tournament, it will be imposing its “no pay, no play” policy, meaning teams that have not forked over the $375 entrance fee will not be allowed to see action in the tournament. However, BANMI said it would accept promissory notes in a case-by-case basis.
Aside from the four seeing action on opening day, the other eight teams that are participating this season are DPS II, Commonwealth Health Center, Division of Labor, Saipan Mayor’s Office, Office of the Public Auditor and Procurement and Supply, Tinian, and defending champion Northern Marianas College.
Games of the government league are played Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. For more information about the 2004 Inter-Government Men’s Basketball League, contact Joey Dela Cruz by calling 664-2503 or 664-2508. (Mark Rabago)
