Man, 61, allegedly strikes niece’s left hand with machete

A 61-year-old man allegedly struck his niece with a machete on the left hand when she told him to wash his hands at her residence in As Lito yesterday morning.
Bernardo Toss Sebangiol was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault and battery.
As of yesterday afternoon, the victim was still confined at the Commonwealth Health Center as her left hand was severely cut, police said.
Superior Court associate judge Joseph James Norita Camacho found probable cause to justify Sebangiol’s arrest on those charges.
Camacho appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent the defendant.
Bail was imposed at $25,000 cash bail. Preliminary hearing will be on Dec. 15, 2011 at 9am.
At the hearing, assistant attorney general Nicole Driscoll called to the witness stand Police Officer Patrick Sablan who narrated to the court the circumstances of the defendant’s arrest.
Police investigation showed that Sebangiol got angry when his niece told him to wash his hands. He allegedly grabbed a machete from the kitchen and struck the left hand of his niece.
