An undeserved increase on CUC bills

Once again, another administration entity board decides to treat the good people of the CNMI like idiots. Raise every community member’s utility bills by 3.5 percent out of the blue, and for what reason? Because CUC cannot collect on the bills owed it? It is to be conceded that, although CUC provides a poor level of utility service, they are showing efforts to improve matters and these improvements are starting to become a reality. It’s not up to the standards in Hawaii or any small Garapan-sized town in the United States, but it is gradually getting better. But to consider raising our utility bills for this service due to the fuel surcharge—when the CNMI government has not even paid its bills—is terrorism!

To the CUC board, don’t raise my bill because I pay my bills on time all the time. We don’t deserve that. What we deserve is for CUC to continually upgrade its service and efficiently collect what is due it from those who still owe it. And we know who they are. But don’t make us pay for their inadequacy. Then maybe, you’ll be able to pay your own bills.

Go back to the conference room and try another approach. This one is not acceptable.
