Armed with just four players on the court, Shag labeled the Local Boys in their seventh game of the season at the Marianas High School Gymnasium on Tuesday, to finish off their regular season schedule in the World Organized Rocball Interscholastic and Community League.

Led by “Kamikaze” Ken Tanzawa, Shag slapped the Local Boys into a losing bunch in a 62-30 beat down that started in the opening set. The smack down began as the Local Boys managed one point against a smothering Shag carpet defense, before succumbing to the 16-point salvo from the Shag offense.

The Boys were able to turn things around in the second set, and finally seemed to take advantage of the gap in the Shag rotation. The Boys bounced back to score 18 points against Shag in an electrifying second set that featured a jam by Local Boy Jordan Tagabuel that went into the net for a goal.

“There’s always a danger that it can happen, but that’s the first time that it ever has,” said Rocball’s founding father, James Feger.

As the teams headed into the third set, Shag still held the overall advantage in the score at 30-19, but the Boys had momentum on their side. That was until they were doubled up by Shag, 16-8 in the third to increase their deficit to 46-27.

By the time the fourth and final set came around, it was all over but the screaming, as Shag sealed the deal by laying a 16-3 whomping on the pounders, leaving plenty of time for the students to get to their last class of the day.

With the win, Shag improved their record to 6-1, and unless the Ghasias Brothers drop their final two games to the Local Boys and the Bwii Bwii, they are assured of a second place finish.

On the other side of the court, the Local Boys have locked up last place at 0-5 with one game remaining, but it is a young team that has plenty of time to gel.

Overall, the Local Boys scored a pair of goals, tallied seven aces and a kee, compared to a monster 10 aces, four kees and seven xunks by Shag.

Shag also had the game’s standout, as Tanzawa was named the heavy hitter, scoring three aces, two kees and three xunks to lead his team in the victory with 16 points.

The action of Rocball continues this afternoon at MHS court, when the Ghasias Brothers take on Bwii Bwii in one of the final matches of the season. All of the aces, xunks, kees, and goals return under the supervision of Feger at 12:30pm.
