Typhoon knocks out flight schedules
Except for at least three early morning flights, all service between the Northern Marianas and Guam were cancelled yesterday due to weather conditions yesterday.
Continental Micronesia reported that only two of its flights between Guam, Saipan and Rota went through yesterday. The first flight, bound for Saipan, departed Guam at 7am, and the other flight left Saipan for Guam at 8:20am.
The remaining eight Continental Connection flights were cancelled.
As of 3pm yesterday, Continental announced the cancellation of only flight number 9378, which departs Guam at 7am today.
Pacific Island Aviation also called off all of its CNMI-Guam flights, except for NW 3805, which departed Saipan at 7:45am.
PIA employee Justin Santos said the Saipan-Rota flight was supposed to go on to Guam, but had to turn back to Saipan due to the weather. All other PIA flights between the three islands were cancelled.
The airline had no advisory of any changes in its flight schedule for today.
Freedom Air operations representative Dennis Cruz said not one of the airline’s flights between Saipan, Rota and Guam went through yesterday. All of the Saipan-Tinian flights, however, were operational.
Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director Carlos Salas said all of the international flights to Saipan went through as scheduled.
“We have not received any notice of cancellation,” he said.
Considering the unpredictable nature of typhoons, Continental Micronesia said in an advisory that its schedule for today is still subject to revision.
“Continental will continue to update its customers through community media outlets as more information becomes available. More information on flight changes will be released as it becomes available,” the carrier said.
Continental also urged customers to stay tuned to local radio and television stations for announcements on possible flight schedule changes.
According to the airline, customers who need additional information on their reservations should call Continental’s reservations office at 671-647-6453 on Guam and 670-234-6492 on Saipan.
