Mayor heads Make-A-Difference campaign
Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela has proclaimed Saturday, Oct. 23, as Make-A-Difference Day, joining mayors throughout the nation in setting one Saturday in October of every year to remember the millions of volunteers “who unselfishly devout their time and effort to bring a change in the lives of every American.”
With the proclamation came the endorsement of a fundraiser intended to assist members of the community. Tudela disclosed that proceeds from pledges and donations for the walk-a-thon, an annual event hosted by his office for the third straight year, would be used to purchase computers for the Mayor of Saipan Youth Learning Center in Chalan Kanoa.
The walk begins at 6am at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion on Susupe. Participants would trek along the Beach Road Pathway to the World War II Tank by the Quartermaster Road and back.
“I look forward to your continued support to bring a change in the lives of our own residents,” Tudela said. “Fill a plate, warm a heart, help children, the homeless and the needy.”
The proclamation signing was witnessed by 2004 Miss Liberation Queen Leiana Ogumoro and first runner-up Sweeda Glad, Saipan Southern High School and Saipan Community School students, SCS principal Arden Smith, Conrad Reyes of the Ayuda Network, as well as Municipal Council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
“A great number of people globally are neglected by people who enjoy the luxury of life and yet forget the needs of others,” a part of the proclamation reads. “Millions of self-sacrificing individuals have touched and enhanced the lives of millions on the annual ‘Make a Difference Day’ by giving alms to the poor, the homeless, the hopeless and victims of injustice by giving where there was a need, rebuilding what had been torn down, teaching where there was a desire to learn and inspiring those who had lost hope.”
