Heads up, MPLA!
Azmar International is insisting the Marianas Public Lands Authority hand over a mining permit to extract pozzolan or “jeopardize the company’s proposal and potential investment dollars.” They are lambasting the MPLA officials, lamenting the delays and threatening it will be “tragic for the economy of the CNMI if we do not receive a permit in time to meet our buyer’s demands.”
If Kenneth Moore is in such a hurry, why won’t HE provide the paperwork that has been politely requested of him month after month after month? I am talking about some very basic documents that any other person would have to show, in order to start any business, anywhere. If he will just provide these documents, and show that everything is on the up and up, then maybe the MPLA will be able to hand over that permit with the support of the community.
That said, if Mr. Moore can’t provide the paperwork now, when he desperately need the permit, what possible incentive will he have to produce it after the MPLA coughs it up?
Heads up MPLA! Pagan has a fantastic resource that must not be handed over to the first investor who asks, make that insists, on having it! Take your time and investigate, the pozzolan is not going to get up and walk away! Make the most of this multi-million dollar opportunity. Forget about meeting off island and behind closed doors. Come out in the open. Represent the best interests of your constituency, and you will not only make money, you won’t have to answer to them if their property is destroyed and their island contaminated for future generations by a company that is asking you to ignore basic accountability measures even before they begin mining.
