In the second week of action in the fall edition of the Saipan Major League, the Pirates and the North Stars knocked off the competition under the Saipan sun this past Saturday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

The Pirates downed the Kautz Glass Glazers 14-4 in eight innings courtesy of the 10-run mercy rule, while the North Stars broke a 1-1 deadlock in the bottom of the ninth inning when the winning run was walked home.

The opening game between the Pirates and the Glazers was quiet until the Pirates reeled off all of the runs that they would need to win the game in the bottom of the second inning when Ned Norita, Sonnie Sablan, T.J. Guerrero, J.J. Taitano, and Jonathan Villagomez found their way home.

The Glazers rallied to score four runs in the top of the fourth inning in which Tyrone Omar and J.D. Dikito each racked up two RBIs. The Pirates answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and tacked on six in the sixth to give them a commanding 11-4 lead. The six-run barrage started off of the stick of Matt Kintol when his single got the party started and finished after Villagomez scored off a throwing error.

John Tudela allowed four runs off of seven hits, struck out five, and walked five in six innings of work for the Pirates before J.P. Flores closed out the game.

In the second game, the North Stars eked out a 2-1 win over the defending champion Hustlers that went down to the wire. With the game tied at one apiece and the bases loaded, Bobby Castro walked B.J. Guerrero, allowing Jesse Jones to walk home from third.

The pitchers duel was scoreless until Jonathan Delos Santos knocked home brother Jerome with a base hit in the top of the fifth inning. The North Stars tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jonathan Jones went the distance for the North Stars, allowing one run, six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in nine innings of work. The Hustlers’ Byron Kaipat, Jonathan Camacho, and Bobby Castro combined to allow just two runs off of six hits, with six walks, and eight Ks.
