Monroyo) Paire FC and MP United A kept their championship hopes in the 2011 NMIFA Men’s FA Cup alive after posting separate playoff wins at the Oleai Sports Complex.

Paire eliminated SKY FC, 4-1, last Sunday to advance to the semifinals against the undefeated Wild Bill’s. MP United A downed Matansa FC, 5-1, in the other playoff pairing played last Tuesday, moving the former to a semis play date versus Inter Godfather’s.

The semis matches will be played this Sunday with Wild Bill’s and Paire colliding at 12pm and Inter Godfather’s dueling MP United A at 3pm. Winners of the two weekend matches will battle for the championship on Dec. 18.

Paire remained in contention for the championship after drawing goals from four different players. Zhi Peng Lin started things out for Paire with his goal right into the ninth minute of the first half. Paire made it a 2-0 game when Risty Vergara scored in the 25 minute.

It took a while for SKY FC to light up the scoreboard, as Guang Lin Li only found the back of the net in the 33rd minute, moving his team within one at halftime, 1-2.

However, that was the only time SKY FC scored, as Paire neutralized the opposing team’s attackers and then added two more goals in the second half for a convincing win. Steve McKagan had one of Paire’s two goals in the second half making it in the 46th minute, while Conor McMahon hit the other one six minutes before the game ended.

MP United A and Matansa were supposed to play in the first game last Sunday, but the match was rescheduled to last Tuesday.

Despite the several days off the pitch, MP United A was still on target, particularly Dae Min Jeon, who had a hat-trick against Matansa. Jeon scored in the 15th minute annd added back-to-back goals in the second half (85th and 90th). Moon Bin Hong and Gwan Byung Hong nailed the two other goals for MP United A, while T.J. Gurung was the lone Matansa player to score in the playoff match.
