The U.S. military will conduct month-long activities on Farallon De Mendinilla in a new batch of bombing exercises on the island.

The Emergency Management Office disclosed this in a public advisory. The same advisory said that the U.S. Marine Corps and the Japan Ground Self Defense Force are now conducting joint exercises on Guam.

On FDM, the EMO said the military would conduct bombing flights on Oct. 14 and 15, from 10:30am to 8pm daily. Target installation on the island is scheduled on Oct. 17 to 23, from 7am to 6pm daily.

The EMO said the military would conduct live fire training on FDM from Oct. 24 to Nov. 19, from 8am to 10pm daily.

The EMO cautioned the public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and tour operators—of the danger posed by the military activities, advising them to stay away from the FDM training area during the conduct of training.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Naval Forces Marianas headquartered on Guam disclosed that it is now hosting bilateral exercises with Japan on military operations on urban terrain.

The bilateral training, which began at the Andersen South training area and the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station on Guam on Sept. 28, would last until Oct. 25.

“This will be a unique opportunity to showcase the wonderful training environment that the island of Guam offers the military,” said Capt. Robert McNaught, chief-of-staff at the U.S. Naval Forces Marianas and commanding officer at the Naval Base Guam.

Sometime last month, a team of military engineers from the U.S. Navy visited the Commonwealth to discuss possible future plans that military has for the islands, particularly Tinian.

Capt. David Boone, the Navy’s officer-in-charge for construction in the Marianas, and his team met with Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente to brief the local executive of the use assessment the Navy was conducting for the military-leased land on Tinian. (John Ravelo)
