Chamber’s Corporate Challenge a success
Sunday, Oct. 3, was a day for competition and fun at American Memorial Park’s Reach Beach as 15 teams—with two from the USS Frank Cable—competed for great, donated prizes in the Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s annual Corporate Challenge.
All of the activities were undertaken to support the Chamber’s Educational Scholarship Fund, which each year helps local students pursue education at a two-year or four-year college.
The new venue provided a shady spot for the egg toss, obstacle course race, fear-factor eating contest, and other games.
Jon Cramer of PIC was an outstanding emcee, providing running commentary and encouragement to teams throughout the day.
In the end, a newcomer to the games—Marianas Express Lines—took first place. Second place went to Dai-Ichi Hotel (which placed third last year), and third place went to the Triple J Stars.
Best tent award went to Verizon for top example of the day’s theme, “Patriotism.”
This year’s teams included Dai-Ichi Hotel, Ernst & Young, Hyatt, MVA, Marianas Express Lines, Matson, Pacific Trading, PIC, Triple J, Saipan Shipping, Verizon, World Star Hotel, and the USS Frank Cable.
Charles Cepeda, Chamber of Commerce director and chair of the Events Committee, said, “This was another successful year for the Corporate Challenge. We raised over $4,000 for our Educational Scholarship Fund. I want to thank all the volunteers who helped out, all the companies that sponsored teams, and all the businesses that donated such great prizes.”
