Garapan Rollers I and Sparks posted convincing wins in the penultimate regular season doubleheader of the 2004 Saipan Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League held last Wednesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In the first game, Sparks (6-5) followed up their resounding upset of G-Rollers I a week ago by this time routing Chalan Kanoa Saints (5-6) in a score of 85-48.

Patrinos Mario and Michael Reyes gave the Saints’ dynamic duo of Luis and L.J. Reyes a dose of their own medicine, hitting shots from all angles to give Sparks a 41-18 edge after opening half.

Chalan Kanoa still had trouble running their offense in the second, as Luis seemed to be the only one having success against the Sparks’ stingy defense.

All together, it was a total team effort by Sparks as 13 players managed to make it to the scoreboard led by the 21 points of Mario and the 15 of Reyes.

Juan Iguel was a monster off the backboard corralling 10, while Benjamin Jones was the top assist man of the evening with 9.

Luis went to town with 21 points but no other Saints wound up in double figures with brother L.J. struggling for 8 and center Rick San Nicolas good for only 6 points to go along with his 10 caroms.

In the second game, G-Rollers I (8-3) showed G-Rollers II (3-8) no mercy in their 90-35 rout of their sister-team.

G-Rollers I wasted no time and went ahead 32-14 at the turn. They would only increase that lead in the second half before more than doubling G-Rollers II’s final score at the end.

Luis Iguel paced a balanced scoring attack by G-Rollers I with 14 points. He also had 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Lester Babauta and Vince Teregeyo also came away with 12 points apiece in the victory.

No G-Rollers II player finished in double figures with Ano Tebuteb’s 7 points being the closest.
