Author Howard Willens to speak at SCC meeting
Howard Willens, attorney in a private law practice in Washington, D.C., will speak at the noon membership meeting of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The meeting will be held at the Dai-Ichi Hotel. Lunch buffet starts at 11:30am, with the meeting starting at noon. Cost of the buffet is $12.
Willens is known for helping draft the Covenant between the CNMI and the United States. He is also the co-author, with his wife Deanne C. Siemer, of National Security and Self-Determination: U.S. Policy in Micronesia (1961-1972), and An Honorable Accord: the Covenant between the Northern Marianas and the United States. Willens will be available to sign his books, which can be purchased at the meeting.
Willens will speak about the historically planned constitutional convention and whether the community wants or needs a new Constitution. He will also address the Council of Humanities’ endeavor to have CNMI historical records from the ten Presidential Libraries returned to the CNMI.
Also scheduled for the October meeting is final preparation of the slate of candidates for the Saipan Chamber of Commerce 2005 Board of Directors. Elections will be held at the November meeting.
The Chamber of Commerce general membership meeting is open to everyone; visitors and guests are welcome.
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce is the largest private business organization in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
