RP Consulate wins Friday Night League
Philippine Consulate General players were awarded their championship and individual trophies last Friday after topping the 14th season of the Philippine Bowling Association-Capital Bowling Center Friday Night League.
The champion team all but etched its name in the three-foot tall trophy after leading by as much as eight games with still three weeks to go in the season.
Although runner-up Star Air Freight Micronesian cut that lead, Philippine Consulate General still took home the title with plenty to spare and ended the season with a 62-23 record.
No less than Consul General Wilfredo D. Maximo graced the awarding ceremonies held at the Capital Bowling Center and offered his congratulations to the team for their success last season, which ended Sept. 24.
“This is a great honor for us. Our boys really hit pay dirt this time. The fact that a team made up mostly of employees from the Philippine Consulate General could win such a prestigious bowling competition is a big achievement for us,” he said.
Team captain Melvin Malvar, for his part, attributed their success to teamwork and strategy of always fielding their best possible lineup against strong teams.
“It was all through teamwork. We wouldn’t have won the championship of this league without all of us playing as one and each member bowling to the best of his ability,” he said.
Malvar also thanked Maximo and the Philippine Consulate General for their generous support of the team. He also extended his appreciation to Number International, their commercial sponsor, and commended his teammates for a job well done.
The Philippine Consulate General team is also made up of Tony David, Raul Dumapit, Lynell Fulgencio, Cris Hilario, Bong Sese, Ely Catalan, Lito Santos, and Eric Pineda.
Star Air settled for second place with a 58-38 record followed by El Kapitan’s 56-30. Making up the Star Air team are Ruben Avendano, Ron Cal, Jun Canillo, Rommel Crisostomo, Orly Ebuen, Efren Puse, Joe Velarde, Jun Villalas, and Paul Bea. El Kapitan players are Celso Agui, Toti Balita, Arnel Del Rosario, Ric Macatao, Miguel Morta, Dannie Robles, Nestor Tapang, and Art Nuncio.
The championship was worth $600 for Philippine Consulate General, while Star Air and El Kapitan also earned $350 and $250, respectively.
