Attempted murder charges filed vs man
Multiple criminal charges were filed yesterday against a man who allegedly injured another who had accused him of having an illicit affair with the latter’s wife, court records showed.
The Attorney General’s Office lodged six criminal charges against 27-year-old Peter M. Peter. The charges against Peter include attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
CNMI chief prosecutor David Hutton accused Peter of stabbing Alfanso Kihleng with a knife last Sept. 22. Hutton said the stabbing was deliberate and premeditated.
Police earlier disclosed that Peter stabbed Kihleng several times in the back and neck. Peter, who hails from Pohnpei, allegedly attacked Kihleng with a knife after the latter caused disturbance while the group was partying at the defendant’s As Matuis homestead residence.
Shortly before the stabbing incident, Kihleng and his wife Hermina Serapio went to the house of Peter and her aunt Lolin Rollynn, who belatedly celebrated her birthday, according to police. Peter and Kihleng, together with two others, had a drinking spree outside the house, while the two women stayed inside.
Later, Kihleng allegedly assaulted his wife, accusing her of having relations with Peter. Although the situation temporarily subsided, Kihleng allegedly got angry moments later, flipping the food table over and shouting profanities at his wife and Peter. A fight ensued between Peter and Kihleng.
Police said Hermina and Peter went inside the house. Alfanso allegedly punched the screen door when Hermina ignored his call.
Peter then got up from the couch and went to the kitchen to get a knife and went out to face Kihleng. Police have arrested Peter pursuant to a court warrant.
