Indalecio makes it to Who’s Who list
Only about 5 percent of high school students in the nation earn academic honors recognition in the Who’s Who Among American High School Students, and among them is Saipan Southern High School student Roque C. Indalecio, whose consistent efforts at achieving academic excellence has enabled him to have his academic biography included in the Who’s Who 2003/2004 Edition.
Nominated by a guidance counselor at the school, Indalecio entered a class of just a few who qualify to apply for one of 127 scholarships totaling over $202,000. To date, the program has awarded over $3.6 million in scholarships.
Indalecio was recently lauded by National Academic Affairs chair Parke H. Davis, who notified him about his recognition through a letter.
“Congratulations! Roque has been nominated for one of the highest academic honors awarded to less than 5 percent of American high schools. Only the highest achieving students in high school are even considered for this honor,” Davis said.
Davis explained that Roque’s achievement would be made known throughout the nation as the publication would be distributed to approximately 11,000 colleges, high schools, libraries, and youth group organizations.
Indalecio is also eligible to use the College Referral Service, which will inform selected colleges and universities of his achievement.
“Recent surveys indicate that 95 percent of responding college admission directors use the CRS to recruit students for admission,” Davis said. “Each year, over 100,000 referrals are made for Who’s Who students.
Further, Indalecio was also awarded membership in the Saipan Southern High School chapter of the National Honor Society.
“Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student,” a letter confirming his membership read. “Your membership also carries a responsibility and obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in your selection.”
He was also recently elected as senator in the CNMI Youth Congress.
Roque is the son of Pedro H. Indalecio and Maria P. Castro of San Antonio. He is also the grandson of Municipal Council chair David A. Indalecio, Rosa H. Indalecio, and Eugenia P. Castro.
“We’re very proud of you Roque; keep up the great job,” the family said.
