The Kagman Elementary School, under the leadership of principal Ignacia Tudela Demapan, was recently commended for obtaining accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

In a resolution adopted by the 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council, it said that member of the municipal council and the people of Saipan are extremely proud of Demapan, her staff, and students and parents for their continued efforts to improve the school in conformance with the established standards of WASC.

“The members of the municipal council and the people of Saipan are [also] extremely gratified with Education Commissioner Dr. Rita H. Inos and board of education members Roman C. Benavente, chair; Marja Lee C. Taitano, secretary/treasurer; Frances H. Diaz, board member; and Herman T. Guerrero, board member, for their strong commitment and leadership in upholding the highest standard of proficiency in the delivery of educational programs in the CNMI Public School System,” part of the resolution reads.

On June 24, 2004, Christina L. Dyer, Commission chair of the Accrediting Commission for Schools, WASC informed Demapan that Kagman Elementary School has been granted a six-year term of accreditation with a midterm review, expiring on June 20, 2010.

Schools in the CNMI are required to receive WASC accreditation before the start of actual school instructions. The WASC visiting committee report revealed that Kagman Elementary School is within the prescribed schools educational standard.

The resolution was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
