Top Pool Bar owner Zheng Jian Qing is putting up $1,000 for a billiard tournament to beat all billiard tournaments this December at the Garapan watering hole.

Dubbed Top Pool Bar $1,000 Open 9-Ball Tournament, the competition will be held on the weekend of Dec. 18 and 19 from 7pm to 2am. The contest will have a 32-man field and will be a single elimination, race to seven wins series.

Zheng said the $1,000 prize money involved matches the biggest purse offered by a billiard hall on Saipan in recent years.

He said those interested should reserve slots as soon as possible as only the first 32 players that sign up get to play in the mega big bucks tournament.

The first night of the tournament will be played to determine the top eight qualifiers. The Top 8, meanwhile, will duke it out on the second day of competition.

The first three placers then get to divide the $1,000 pot. The second runner-up gets to line his pockets with $200, the runner-up goes home with $300, while the champion of the two-day pool extravaganza bags the $500 grand prize.

Entry fee for the $1,000 billiard event is $30 per person and pairings will be done through a draw, which date will be announced at a later time according to Zheng.

“I hope this would be an exciting tournament. I’m inviting all the top pool players on the island to compete and give themselves a chance at winning a big payday,” said Zheng.

Top Pool Bar is one of the newest and more spacious billiard venues in town. It boasts of seven 9-1/2-by-5-foot tables usually found in professional tournaments abroad.
