NMC clubs elect new officers for the year
The Northern Marianas College Volunteers Club and the Beta Lamba Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa elected new club officers Friday last week.
PTK welcomed on board the newly elected president Tatiana Babauta, vice president Leslie Cabrera, treasurer Kuan Yuan, recording secretary Kasandra Santos, public relations secretary Lucia Henry, and membership secretary See Cabrera.
On hand to assist the officers are club advisers Angie Sills, Dr. Debra Cabrera, Eleanor Cabrera, and Doris Aldan-Atalig.
The Volunteer’s club, also considered one of the most prestigious clubs at NMC, also recognized the newly elected officers of the group.
Taking the title as president is Champ Fejeran; vice president, Noke Rogopes; treasurer, Janet Santiago; secretary, Cathleen Davis; and public relations officer, Freddy Salavaria.
The Beta Lamba Psi Chapter of PTK was introduced to the college on April 2003. PTK, established almost 100 years ago, is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving over 1,100 two-year colleges around the world.
The club recognizes and encourages the academic achievements of two-year college students and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through honor, leadership, and service programming.
According to its website, PTK provides members the opportunity to develop leadership and service for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.
The Volunteers Club, on the other hand, provides college students with the opportunity to create an environment of experience and commitment. They have been involved in community services such as beach cleanups, assisting the American Red Cross, and participating in school events.
Both clubs are urging interested students to become members and be involved in school activities.
PTK officers and advisers are currently accepting applications from interested individuals.
