10 scholarship slots open for college freshmen
Encouraging high school graduates to pursue higher education, Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio disclosed that scholarship money would be available for 10 first-time college-bound freshmen for the school year 2004-2005.
The Col. Joel A. Carroll Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund offers one-time $500-scholarship to CNMI high school graduates.
Applicants who intend to pursue studies in health, science, and engineering fields would be preferred, Tenorio’s office said.
“These are very expensive fields to pursue in college. Especially now that we are in an economic crisis, the scholarship will help, whether the money is big or small,” said Tenorio’s staff, Ana Teregeyo.
Teregeyo said applicants should be U.S. citizens or nationals and have been accepted by a university or college.
Application packages are available at Tenorio’s Saipan office on Capitol Hill. The deadline for submission of completed applications is on Sept. 30. Applications must be submitted to Tenorio’s office on Capitol Hill, Saipan by 4:30pm on that day, or postmarked Sept. 30 if submitted through mail.
Tenorio—together with Labor Secretary Joaquin Tenorio, Labor director Dean Tenorio, and the wife and children of the late Col. Joel A. Carroll—co-founded the non-profit group giving out the scholarships.
Teregeyo said she could be reached at 664-5651 for further information about the scholarship applications. (John Ravelo)
