Hopwood haiku

This group of students’ haiku/senryu marks the fourth school year that Hopwood Junior High School students have had their poems published in the Saipan Tribune. Today’s poems are a haven for the havoc created by recent typhoons and a harbor for some creative poetic student histories. Enjoy!

In Guam
water dripping from the tento
come crashing down on me

heads up! look up, watch out
a tree branch drops

I catch your breath and
hard winds fly away
I’m a typhoon

cold rain hits the earth
as the sky grows dark
leaving us in fear
