KOBLERVILLE TO DISTRIBUTE PROGRESS REPORTS
Acting principal Eric DLG. Evangelista of Koblerville Elementary School would like to inform the community that mid-term progress reports will be distributed today, Sept. 15, 2004.
DPS CHECKPOINT ON FRIDAY
The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section will be conducting a sobriety/DUI checkpoint on Friday, Sept. 17, 2004.
The first checkpoint will be from 7pm to 8:15pm along 2W Highway Garapan in front of the Garapan Central Park. The second checkpoint will be from 9pm to 10:15pm along Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road by the CUC Waterloo Station.
Each checkpoint will last at least 1 hour and 15 minutes at each location. This activity is part of the Department of Public Safety’s efforts to deter and detect drunk/intoxicated drivers and ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.
In addition, the traffic officers will be performing highway criminal interdictions, aggressive driver interdictions, laser activities, and saturation patrols. For more information, contact Sgt. Sylvan Rangamar at 664-9084-6.
ARTISTS SOUGHT FOR CNMI DIRECTORY OF ARTISTS
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs-Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture will be publishing a directory on CNMI visual and performing artists, both folk and contemporary.
The publication will provide one page per artist for a photo of the artist(s), and up to two photos of artworks or performances. Additionally, each page will include a short biography of the artist(s) and their work and contact information.
For those who would like to be included in this publication, they will need to submit a clear photo of themselves or their group, two photos of their artwork or performances, a short biography and contact information to Sinforosa Pinaula at the Arts Council Office no later than Sept. 15, 2004.
One copy of the publication will be provided to every artist included. The publication will be disseminated to the public and private sectors, and will be made available to individuals and entities seeking artwork or arts services.

CHACHA OCEANVIEW JR. HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
This is to inform the general public, student, parents and guardians that Chacha Oceanview Junior High School will be holding an Open House night this Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 from 4:30 to 6:30pm for the distribution of our first quarter progress reports. This is an opportunity for all concerned stakeholders to speak with the teachers of your child/children about his/her progress in the classroom. Please come and join us on this day.
INTERPRETERS NEEDED
The Emergency Operations Center is seeking volunteer interpreters to assist individuals seeking typhoon assistance at the Disaster Recovery Centers. Interpreters for Chinese, Korean, Tagalog and Japanese are needed. Hours are flexible. To volunteer, call Juan T. Camacho at the Emergency Management Office at 322-8001/2.

One of the major events for the month of September is the Annual WSR STUCO (Student Council) Election. WSR will hold its STUCO election for school year 2004-2005 on Sept. 28. All students from 3rd to 6th grade will choose their leaders on that day. The official candidates will be presented to the student body on Sept. 13 during the flag ceremony, followed by a weeklong campaign period, followed by the STUCO election on Sept. 28. The STUCO officers will then be sworn in to office by the Judge Alex Castro of the Supreme Court at an induction ceremony on Oct. 4.

SEPTEMBER EVENTS AT GES
Cultural Heritage Month ends with Cultural Day at the Garapan Elementary School. If parents would like to prepare booths or presentations, call GES at 664-3955.
– Sept. 15, 2004 is Pizza Hut Night. Proceeds will help fund this year’s handbook for parents/students.
– The week of Sept. 20, 2004 will be school picture week.
– Sept. 30, 2004 is PTA Night at 6pm in the school cafeteria.
More information regarding these activities will be disseminated as the month progresses, the school said in a statement.
The school also extended its gratitude to 99 Cent Supermarket, which donated rakes to teachers for the campus clean up after Supertyphoon Chaba, and to the Saipan Mayor’s Office for property disposing of debris from the typhoon.
