Over 300 join Week 2 of All Schools qualifier

The qualifiers for the 2012 McDonald’s 2012 PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Championship continued to lure a lot of students, as over 300 showed up in last week’s elementary division competitions at the Oleai Sports Complex.
In the boys U10 200m qualifier alone, 54 students from the three school zones joined the race with Sebastien Manata of Zone A’s William S. Reyes Elementary School recording the fastest qualifying time at 33. 24 seconds. Four other runners completed the 200m sprint under the 34-second mark. The list includes Zone C and Koblerville’s KC Figuera (33.36 seconds), Jared Reyes (33.53 seconds), and Henry Fleming (33.60 seconds), and WSR’s Glenn Matalog (34.40 seconds).
Only the Top 2 finishers for the sprints (60m, 100m, 200m), in each zone will qualify for the All Schools Championship set from May 17 to 19. Then the rest of the times from all zones will be collected with the Top 2 earning entries to the three-day meet. In the throwing events (javelin, softball, and shotput), the Top 3 from each zone will march into the championship, while the Top 3 from all zones combined will take the remaining slots
Besides the 200m, other qualifying events held in Week 1 were the boys and girls U8, 10, and U12 400m run and softball throw.
In the boys U8 200m qualifier, 40 competed with Koblerville’s Christopher Hans posting the best qualifying time of 36.14 seconds. In the girls U8, Zone A and Dandan Elementary School’s Neiyahni Benavente logged the fastest time (37.82 seconds) among 22 participants.
In the 400m qualifier, Hans also finished on top with his 1:31.11, beating 25 other runners, while the girls division drew seven entries with Zone B and Kagman Elementary School’s Aldin Castro clocking in at 1:49.14, just .10 of a second ahead of Barbara Peteru of Zone A’s Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
In the softball throw, 35 competed in the boys qualifier with Kagman’s Jesstin Laniyo topping the field with his 28.83m. Sharmaine Francisco of WSR submitted 19.65m to lead 15 other students.
In the girls U10 age group, WSR’s Magthalina Sebuu led 27 others in the 200m run with her time of 35.23 seconds. In the 400m, 47 competed in the boys qualifier with Dandan’s Matthew Kapileo (1:08.30) ruling the field. In the girls division, Kagman’s Maureen Mendiola recorded 1:44.00 to beat 19 other runners. In the softball throw that lured 41 in the boys and 21 in the girls, Koblerville’s Rikko Lizama (38m) and Leslie Babauta (29.6m) topped their respective divisions.
In the boys U12 200m qualifying races, Kapileo bested 45 other entries with his 29.28 seconds, while the girls top qualifier among 30 runners was Koblerville’s Virginia Imperial (31.71 seconds).
For the 400m qualifiers, Dandan had a sweep with J.J. Jones ruling the boys 41-runner field with his 1:07.42 and Janelle Reyes reigning among 17 entries with her time of 1:18.24.
Garapan Elementary School and Tanapag shared top honors in the softball throw with Aiferson Atan (53.1m) defeating 44 other entries in the boys division and Eritana Dela Cruz (33m) leading 17 others in the girls category.
