While their younger brothers in the Junior League were enjoying a day off, the CNMI Senior League All-Stars dropped their second straight game in the Senior League World Series in Bangor, ME, this time by a score of 4-1 to the Whalley Little League All-Stars of Surrey, B.C. in front of a crowd of 200 spectators.

Although they threatened to score on several occasions, the Pacific Regional champions weren’t able to generate more than one run in the seven-inning contest. Their lone run came off of the bat of Jeff Saures, when he singled to left field to bring Tony Palacios home.

The offense was struggling, but the pitching was as solid as one could hope for in the World Series. Palacios went the distance, threw 122 pitches, and allowed just four runs off of seven hits. The P-man walked three but sent 10 of the Canadian All-Stars back to their dugout via strikeout.

At the plate, Palacios tried to help himself out on the mound by going 2-for-4, teammate Antoine Allen continued his success with the stick, going 2-for-3, and Saures went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the CNMI.

The Northern Marianas hard-ballers need to put their bats to work for them if they have any hopes of reaching the finals. At 0-2, the CNMI is at the bottom of Pool A, but they are not necessarily out of the hunt yet. The Dade City Little League out of Florida is sitting atop the heap at 2-0, and with the win, the Canadians surged ahead to take second place with a 2-1 record. In third place with a 1-1 record is the team from Oxnard, CA which opened up with a loss to Dade City and beat the CNMI. Finally, the host team of the tournament, Bangor Westside/Bangor East Little League is 0-1 after having lost to the Canadians in their only game thus far.

Secharmidal, Allen, Palacios, Flores, Ben Tasikan, Tyrone Omar, Dan Concepcion, Jeff Saures, Zachary Concepcion, Derrick Babauta, Jesse Garcia, Thomas Guerrero, Many Ada, and Peter Tenorio will be out to get their first victory when they meet the winless team from Bangor, ME. Their game is scheduled to take place this morning at 10am Saipan local time.

The CNMI Junior League All-Stars get back to business when they face the Canadian All-Stars from the Moose Jaw Little League in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan this morning at 7am Saipan local time.
