BOH donates $5K to Guma Esperansa
The Bank of Hawaii Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 to Karidat for Guma Esperansa (House of Hope).
The grant will be used to provide assistance to victims of abuse during their stay at the Karidat shelter for victims of domestic violence, Guma Esperansa. In particular, this money will be used to buy computers that the women at the shelter can use to write statements for police reports, write letters to employers, as well as requests for services from other agencies.
Children at the shelter will also be able to use the computers to do their homework and other school projects.
Overall, the availability of computers will be a healthy outlet for intellectual and emotional energy for the victims at the shelter, a statement from the foundation said.
While accepting the check donation, Karidat executive director Angie Guerrero thanked the bank management for their generous contribution to support a worthy community cause.
Bank of Hawaii vice president and manager Verna Felipe, who also serves as a board member of Karidat, applauded the work that Karidat is providing to the community.
“We are pleased to provide this grant to Guma Esperansa to assist women and children at the shelter,” said Felipe.
