Two nabbed for shoplifting over the weekend
Two men were arrested for separate shoplifting incidents the past weekend.
On Sunday, police responded to an incident at the Duty Free Shoppers Galleria and arrested 49-year-old Nikolay Barnov.
According to police report, the suspect was observed through surveillance camera allegedly taking an item from the Este Lauder section at about 8:46pm and placing it in his shopping bag. The report further indicated that additional footage revealed the suspect allegedly taking an item from the Christian Dior section at about 9:32pm and placing it in his bag as well. The item is valued $38.
The suspect exited the building at 9:43pm, prompting the security guard to confront him by the road at the southern exit of the establishment.
The report indicated that the security guard was escorting the suspect to the security office when he reportedly “took off running west across the street toward the Hafa Adai Hotel and south toward Keeraku Restaurant.”
The security guard continued to chase the suspect, however, lost sight of him.
The suspect was later apprehended by responding officers who searched the area.
Another individual, 47-year-old John F. Pua, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon for allegedly stealing an alcohol beverage.
Police report indicated that the suspect was noticed by an on duty security guard to have reportedly taken a bottle of Sojo, placing it in his pants.
“The guard observed the suspect walk out of the store without paying for the Sojo,” the report stated.
The report indicated that the guard approached the suspect and asked him to pull up his shirt. The suspect cooperated and the guard reportedly saw the bottle.
Further, the suspect reportedly lied to the responding officer about his name. When asked by the officer why he took the bottle, the suspect reportedly said, “I had no money to buy it.”
He was taken to the Adult Correctional Facility where his real identity was revealed.
