ATTEMPTED RAPE FOILED BUT VICTIM INJURED

A woman sustained severe injuries last Saturday and was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center after a man reportedly tried to rape her.

Department of Public Safety acting public information officer Captain Pete C. Muna said yesterday that while attempting to rape the victim, the unidentified suspect, on several occasions, “continuously punched” her, resulting in the victim suffering internal head injuries.

The victim, whose identity was withheld, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Muna said the victim’s fiancée told police that someone had tried to rape her. Police learned that at about 4:30am, the suspect entered the victim’s third floor apartment unit in Garapan and attacked her.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect bit the victim’s private area with her clothes still on,” he said. “The suspect then suffocated her and placed his hands on the private area of the victim.”

Further, Muna said the victim began to fight back, prompting the suspect to begin to punch her on the face.

The victim then told the suspect that there was a camera in her apartment and that someone was monitoring his actions.

Muna said the suspect then walked to the door, but came back in, prompting a struggle with the bedroom door. The suspect managed to force his way into the bedroom and began to continuously punch the victim’s face. “The victim [then] played dead because she could not take the beating anymore. When the victim did this, the suspect stopped the punching.”

“The victim peeked to see what the suspect was doing. She saw him kneeling next to her and was playing with himself.”

Muna said the victim got “more scared” and began to scream for help.

“At this point, the victim told the suspect again about the camera and that her fiancée was coming because he could see him in the camera. The suspect [then] stood up and walked out of the door,” Muna said.

As of press time, no arrest was made. Investigation in the case is still ongoing.

MAN IN CUSTODY FOR DAMAGING POKER MACHINE

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly damaging a poker machine at MGM Poker in San Jose early Sunday morning.

Muna said that according to the attendant of establishment, the suspect, Marvin L. Somol, entered the premises at about 12:30am and allegedly began to kick several chairs.

“The attendant further stated that she walked over to the suspect and told him to leave, but the suspect started yelling profanities at her, and at the same time, punched and kicked poker machine No. 37,” he said. “The attendant immediately called 911.”

Muna said although the suspect left the scene before police arrived, authorities were able to tract the suspect inside another poker establishment.

“The suspect started running and one of the officers ran after him and caught up with him.”

Further, Muna said the suspect was bleeding “around the knuckle area” of his right hand. A strong odor of alcohol was reportedly coming from the suspect’s breath.

The suspect was escorted back to MGM Poker where the attendant reportedly identified him as the person responsible for the damage to the machine.

The suspect was charged with criminal mischief, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.
