Off to the World Series

The CNMI became the capital of baseball in the Pacific after ousting defending champion Guam last Wednesday.

In foreign soil, the top 9-12-year-olds from the CNMI beat their rival baseball players from the south, 4-3, and earned a ticket to Williamsport, PA where the Little League World Series commences on Aug. 20-29.

In other sports, the 2004 UFO-San Miguel is winding down its eliminations round with the playoff pairings almost complete. The 14th season of the Rotary Club of Saipan Summer Youth Basketball League, meanwhile, entered its second week.

The 2004 Inter-Restaurant Basketball League, for its part, is on the thick of the first round with top teams Country House, Angel Wings, and Capricciosa duking it out for the pennant title.

In the IVYBL, Garapan Rollers I returned to the top after topping a game 69ers team last July 23.

The Saipan Tennis Association also kicked off its 2nd Verizon Cup last Wednesday with over 100 entries signed up.
