The Cooperative Education and Training Program or Co-op is looking for businesses with qualified and experienced people to be assigned as a training mentor for the senior level students in the public high schools on Saipan.

The training provides students with work experience as a trainee at an off-campus business organization. Students are required to train a minimum of 10 hours per week.

The prerequisites for students include: 12th grade or senior status; a GPA of 2.0 or above; good attendance; and no disciplinary problems. Students with two or more years of taking vocational education classes are given first priority.

All businesses in the program are encouraged to attend the Career Fair on Aug. 13, from 1:15pm 3pm at the Saipan World Resort’s Hibiscus Hall. This will give students the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of businesses in the CNMI.

Interview appointments can take place during Career Fair or through Tyce Mister, the program coordinator. All businesses will have an opportunity to meet with the students for evaluation.

According to its website, Co-op originally began in 1971 at the Marianas High School. The program was recently introduced to the two newest high schools, the Kagman High School, and Southern High School.

The program is designed to assist students in the job market, both on education in campus and training off campus. Students in the program will perform several projects including completing resumes, applications, interviews, and personal development among others.

For more information on the program, please contact Mister at 664-3831. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
