ToC requests participants to rise before the roosters
Due to the tremendous turn out for the 2004 Tournament of Champions, golfers registered in the event are being asked by the organizing committee to set their alarm clocks ahead by 30 minutes for this weekend’s challenge.
The original showtime was set for 6am, but in order to make bag the drop-off and check-in run smoothly, it has been bumped to 5:30am. The start of the tournament is still slated for 7am tomorrow.
Although the tournament is full, players selected from the waiting list will be called on a “first come, first serve” basis and will be notified of their status no later than 5pm this evening.
As a reminder, under no circumstances will walk-in registrations be accepted at the courses on either of the play days.
The woods and wedges will be swinging tomorrow morning, but there will be plenty of tournament action tonight. Whether you are golfing with the champions this weekend or not, you may take part in the Calcutta-“Bidding” for players in the Championship Flight. Anyone can bid on the players in this flight, so long as you are paid by 6pm tonight, when the bidding will begin at AJ’s (Jonny’s Beach Club).
Based on the success of last year’s Calcutta, tournament organizers are bringing the format back. From the money collected, 25 percent will go to the ToC. Of the remaining pool, 50 percent will go to the first place bid winner, 30 percent to the second place bid winner and 20 percent to the third place winner.
Last year there were about 20 players in the flight, and this year looks to possibly top that number. With the minimum bid starting at $100 per player, there’s sure to be a happy ending for some lucky bidder.
