Shaffer tops Sunday pool
Joe Shaffer beat Simon Kapileo twice in the finals to claim the Sunday Winner-Take-All 8-Ball Fun Tournament at Round Two Bar and Grill last July 18.
It was payback time for Shaffer, as he defeated in the championship the same player who relegated him to losers bracket play in his first ever trip to the green felt table that evening.
Shaffer thrived after being literally placed behind the 8-ball, as he scored five straight victories, beating the likes of Manny Mariano, Roy Tereyama, Ed Sarmiento, and Charlie Peter to get another shot at Kapileo.
In the rematch, Shaffer dealt Kapileo his first defeat of the tournament, negating the No. 1 seed’s twice-to-beat advantage. And in the rubber match, Shaffer completed his comeback by hoisting the championship trophy and taking home the $40 winner-take-all pot.
Kapileo settled for second place bragging rights, while Peter finished third. Other cue artists that graced the Sunday night billiards competition were Jerry Soriano, Donald Kapileo, and Manny Magcalas.
Round Two hosts three regular tournaments a week. The Sunday Winner-Take-All Fun Tournament starts at 1pm and entry costs is $5 per player. Depending on the number of lady participants, the competition switches from regular to an 8-ball handicap format.
The Tuesday Ladies Handicap 8-Ball Tournament is held every Tuesday starting at 8pm and has an entry fee of $10.
On Thursdays, Round Two holds the exciting Miller Lite Invitational 8-Ball Tournament starting at 8pm. Entry fee is $15 on regular days but goes up to $25 every last Thursday of the month.
