G-Rollers I, 69ers make Final Four
Pennant champ Garapan Rollers I and runner-up 69ers advanced to the Final Four of the 2004 Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League after drubbing lower seeded teams Monday night at the Garapan court.
In the first game, G-Rollers I toyed with sister-team Garapan Rollers II before blowing them out 67-40. The 69ers then hardly broke into a sweat in exacting the Sparks a 66-24 whipping in the second game.
The older and more seasoned G-Rollers I got off to a strong start and led 18-10 after the first quarter. But the G-Rollers II were not about to give the game away on a silver platter and outscored their opponents 9-6 in the second to trail by only 5 points, 19-24, at halftime.
G-Rollers I went on a scoring spree in the third and entered the fourth and final quarter ahead 48-33. But it was all she wrote as the payoff period got underway with both teams emptying their benches and G-Rollers I nailing the game with plenty to spare.
Don Teregeyo led G-Rollers I with 12 points, while steady hands Joemar Tumaquip and Jose Castro added 10 points apiece. G-Rollers II were led by the 8 markers of George Dalan.
It was more or less the same scenario in the 69ers route of Sparks in the nightcap. The eliminations second-place team went up 21-8 after one and then padded that advantage to 36-12 at the turn.
The 69ers continued to fire on all cylinders in the third, opening up a 49-18 spread going into the final eight minutes of the contest. It was all over but the shouting as the fourth quarter ensued and the 69ers coasted to the 42-point win.
