Two persons nabbed for alleged shoplifting
Two persons were nabbed in separate alleged shoplifting incidents at the Joeten Hafa Adai Shopping Center in Garapan on Sunday.
According to police report, the first incident, reported at about 12:13pm, involved a 36-year-old man allegedly caught stealing two bottles of Shiokara Momoya Ika, or fish guts, valued at $8. The incident was reportedly caught on the store’s surveillance camera.
The report indicated that the suspect, Norris O. Omengkar, was observed through the camera allegedly taking the items and placing them in his black pouch. The security officer on duty notified other security guards in the area, who stopped the suspect as he was about to walk out of the store.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officer Daniel Quitugua was taken to the surveillance camera room, where he observed the alleged criminal act.
In his report, Quitigua quoted the suspect as saying, “I was hungry and don’t know what got into my head that I just took the item without paying.”
Another shoplifting incident was reported at the same location later in the day.
Police report indicated that the second incident, reported at about 3:47pm, involved a female tourist allegedly caught stealing an item from the cosmetics area.
Quitugua was again escorted to the surveillance camera room, where he witnessed the alleged act, after which he placed the suspect, 27-year-old Puishan Zhang, under arrest.
The suspect, monitored through the camera, reportedly took Colorstay and Revlon cosmetics from the counter and was holding them in her hands while walking into the dressing room. Upon exiting the dressing room, it was noticed that the suspect was not holding the item. It was then that security guards were notified.
The report also showed that when approached by security guards, the suspect allegedly reached into her bag and pulled out the items.
The two suspects were taken to the Adult Corrections Facility, where they were booked and detained.
