Rethink use of DYS facility
I just read an article where the Office of the Attorney General is proposing to use the underutilized Kagman Juvenile Facility to house the illegal aliens who could not be accommodated at the CNMI immigration detention facility.
I ask that whoever brought up that idea must rethink it because the Kagman Juvenile Facility was justified to the federal government and our local government when our people were securing federal grants for it.
Juveniles must be segregated from adults while being incarcerated. I object to this idea, and hope that the Representative’s of Precinct I will also look into this matter seriously. I suggest that they work this out with Commissioner Camacho because the Susupe Adult Facility will be the most ideal place for these illegal aliens, especially if the Vicente T. Seman Correctional Facility is completed. I hope that my comment on this issue will wake up some leaders to rethink the issue. I just wonder if they did some research with the CNMI Court and found out how many pending cases there are that warrant incarceration? However, I am glad that I had the opportunity to see that article.
