Saipan Stevedore is ATOSCOM’s new president

The Saipan Stevedore Co. has been elected president of the Association of Terminal Operators and Stevedoring Companies of Micronesia during an election held at ATOSCOM’s 31st Annual Conference.

The meeting was held in Majuro, Republic of Marshall Island on July 6 and 7, 2004.

The organization, which was founded in 1974, meets regularly to discuss shipping and port operations issues in the region. The main topic of discussion for this past meeting was implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code and the Maritime Transportation Security Act. It has been determined that all of the regions ports are currently in compliance and are continuing to work to meet the mandates of the regulations.

During the election of the association’s new officers for the next year, Saipan Stevedore Co. was elected president, Belau Terminal and Transfer was elected vice-president, Waab Transportation from Yap was elected treasurer and the Port Authority of Guam was elected secretary.

The organization is next scheduled to meet in Palau on July 2005.
