Head Start regional confab begins today
A four-day regional conference on Head Start program begins today at Marianas High School in Susupe.
Head Start community coordinator Malua Peter said this is the first time that the CNMI will host the annual event, which will be attended by participants from American Samoa, Chuuk, Guam, Hawaii, Kosrae, Palau, Ponphei, Marshall Islands, United States, and Yap.
“It’s an honor for the CNMI to host this conference, which is one of the largest pre-school, early childhood educational conference in the Pacific region,” said Peter.
The event, called Annual Outer Pacific Head Start Conference, is on its 8th year. It is sponsored this year by the CNMI Head Start Program and its grantee, the CNMI Public School System.
The local Head Start, headed by director Paz Younis, said the first three days of the conference will focus on activities that will help participants learn more about each other’s success stories in providing basic education to children between the ages of three to five.
Conference participants include teachers, administrators, parents, and other educators from the region.
Head Start is a U.S. federally funded program that offers free basic education for children from low-income families.
This year’s conference theme is “Celebrating Excellence: The Pacific Way.”
