Man charged with assault
The Department of Public Safety arrested a 28-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted a police officer early Wednesday morning.
According to DPS public information officer Thomas A. Blas Jr., a Fire Rescue crew reported a male individual, Ming Jhe Li, obstructing traffic in the middle of Beach Road Chalan Piao shortly after 1am.
“Officer [Emery] Kaipat responded and found the individual. [Kaipat] confronted the male individual and immediately the individual retaliated by yelling back at the officer and refusing to obey the officer’s orders to calm down,” Blas said.
Further, Blas said the suspect assaulted the officer by “pushing him in the chest” and was verbally aggressive as well.
“Officer Kaipat attempted to arrest the suspect, but [he] refused to cooperate. [A] pepper mace had to be applied to his face in order to be subdued,” Blas said.
Preliminary investigation also indicated that the suspect was highly intoxicated during the confrontation.
Blas said the suspect was taken to the Adult Correctional Facility where he was booked and detained.
He was charged with assault and battery and resisting arrest.
