Various hotels housing stranded tourists on Saipan offered them special rates in hopes of providing satisfying accommodations.

Over 800 tourists were stranded after flights were cancelled due to intensifying weather conditions as a result of Typhoon Tingting.

Hotels presented tourists with special typhoon rates for room accommodations. They would not specify, though, the prices offered.

“We had almost 100 guests that stayed back because of the typhoon, and we accommodated them by offering special typhoon rate and special treatment,” said Aqua Resort Club general manager Mark Murai.

The same was said by Matty Davids, executive office manager for Coral Ocean Point Resort. Davids said 50 percent of the guests at the resort were stranded; all were scheduled for departure yesterday.

“Most of our guests are from Japan, Honolulu, and Manila,” she said. “They were all given special privileges and special rates.”

The same privilege was given by World Resort Saipan, which had between 160 to 200 stranded passengers, according to manager Juko Ishikawa.

All signatory airlines decided to cancel their remaining flights Monday due to Typhoon Tingting.

There was zero visibility as of Monday afternoon, with Tingting gaining strength after making landfall on the Marianas archipelago Sunday night.

All stranded passengers bound for Tokyo, Guam, Honolulu, and other destination were brought to several Saipan hotels where they stayed until flights normalized.
