Organizers of the 2004 Inter-Restaurant Basketball League are crossing their fingers and praying that the worst of the week’s bad weather is over.

With half a dozen games postponed because of rain, the midnight league has redrawn and reworked its schedule.

Tonight organizers hope the league finally returns to action with the game against Country House and Capricciosa. The match is actually one of the few games left in the original schedule.

Country House is fresh from a rugged win against Jollibee Stingers last Thursday, which saw two players from each team getting the boot from head referee Arnold Mesa. Capricciosa, for its part, was upset by surprise pacesetter Angel Wings last June 20.

As always, battle will be joined between the two powerhouse ballclubs starting 11pm at the Garapan court.

The IRBL schedule continues with the make-up game between Keeraku and Capricciosa tomorrow. The next day, Saturday, would then see Angels Wings taking on winless El Segundo. Both games are also set to begin at 11pm.

To attract the most number of basketball fans, the midnight league plays its games at the Garapan court on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Make-up games are set during the off-days.

All teams are expected go through a single-round elimination phase. It will be followed by the playoff round. The battle for third place will be a single knockout game, while the finals would be a best-of-three affair.

The games are also spiced up by a 3-point shootout competition during halftime. Aside from the overall championship trophy, teams would also be fighting for the pennant championship, which goes to the team with the best record after the regular season.

While Triple J Five-Star Wholesale will sponsor the pennant trophy, the overall championship will come in the form of a cup that will be passed on to the winning team each year. Champion teams, however, would have their names etched into the cup and will retain a replica.

A number of individual awards are also up for grabs after the season. It includes league MVP, spots in the mythical five selection, and 3-point king award.
