The Marianas Racing Association, with Miller Lite and Pepsi, hosted the 2004 Motocross Race Series this past Sunday, May 30 at the Cowtown Raceway Park, in the final event to take place on the track.

“This will be the last race before we rip up the track so that we can get ready for July,” said MRA president Steve Sablan.

Before anything began to come apart, 40 competitors joined in all of the two- and four-wheel action in the mini’s, 50cc, 60cc, 85cc, 125cc, 250cc and 450cc classes. The riders had their last go rounds at the island’s northern tip to earn valuable points for the championship.

There were three heats per class spread out over the day, and points were awarded to each rider based upon how the racer finished in their class. The rider with the most points in their class at the end of the three heats was declared the winner.

For the Mini-ATV, Britney Camacho once again took the title in her class aboard her four-wheeler grabbing the 25 points allowed for the day, while Megan “Black Knight” Cruz continued to dominate in the Power Puff 80/85cc heats. Right behind Cruz were Ana “Daidai” Tenorio and “Luscious” Mari Palacios.

Jacob Jones cruised to another victory upon his Mini 50cc (modified) while Davin Noisom earned 25 points in the peewee class.

The 60/65cc class got the tiny two wheels rolling, and Christian Manzanares was head and shoulders above the rest, winning two of three heats and a combined 72 points. Not too far behind was DJ Cepeda, finishing with 67 points.

The Mid Range ATV class hit the circuit again, led by season leader Carl Camacho. Camacho won all three heats to add to his dominating 75- point total this season.

The more experienced riders dusted off their gear and competed in the Veterans division. MRA president Sablan was the top finisher of the day, followed by Charles Cepeda and Dave Burger.

Circling the track on 80-85ccs of power, the Fast and Furious division crowned Shane Alvarez as champion in class, with Henry “Neni Girl” Camacho and DJ “500 laps” Camacho hot on his tail.

The bigger bikes entered the 125 Novice and Expert races were led by Glenn Pangelinan, winning two of three, with the last heat going to Dave Celis. Expert rider Cuki Alvarez did it again, winning the first two heats, dropping the third to his son Alverick Alvarez.

The 250cc Novices got underway as Charles Cepeda gathered in 25 points for his season total. This was Cepeda’s second set of three heat events of the day, but he didn’t stop there. Cepeda took third in the Big Boy ATV races. He followed behind the day’s top finishers Christian “No Fear” Camacho and Christopher “Yeeha” Alepuyo.

“I believe that everyone deserves a good pat on the back for a job well done. Everyone who raced had to pull from deep down inside themselves to finish the race as it was probably hot enough to fry an egg on your helmet,” said Sablan in a letter to his racers.
