The Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino recently donated some $1,880.75 to the Tinian Junior & Senior High School to be used as seed money for the creation of a local My WAVE Club at the school.

Michael Kwan, chairman of Hong Kong Entertainment Overseas Investment Ltd., which operates the hotel and casino, presented the check to Ramon Dela Cruz, chairman of the Tinian San Jose Fiesta Committee and Director for Tinian Promotions and Visitors Information Center, over the weekend. The donation was taken from the proceeds of food and beverages sale during the Ultimate Fight Boxing last April 30, 2004.

The club that will be organized using the donated money is similar the My WAVE Clubs on Saipan that aim to bring more local awareness among schoolchildren on the significance of tourism in the community. The goal is to make children understand that tourism is one of the biggest industries on the island and the importance of everyone in the community to be hospitable and friendly to off-island visitors.

“This is also to try and generate more interest among the schoolchildren in the hospitality industry so that they can join the growing number of local people in tourism related businesses,” said Dela Cruz, who has been the chairman of the Tinian San Jose Fiesta Committee in the last four years.

Dela Cruz thanked Kwan on behalf of the Tinian Mayor’s Office and the people of Tinian for his continued support and commitment to the community and for his contribution to the school.
